The tour begins with a five hour drive to Fort Portal, through beautiful green scenery and traditional homesteads and farms. Our destination is a pretty town that lies on the edge of Kibale Forest, in the shadow of the Rwenzori Mountains of the Moon.

After settling into our base, we set out to explore the surrounds of Fort Portal – but no too far as evening entertainment by traditional (kikiga) dancers awaits.

We rise early and make the short journey to Kibale; Uganda’s most accessible rainforest. The morning is spent tracking chimpanzees through the forest – sometimes tiring but always enjoyable. You can also expect to see L’Hoest’s monkeys, red colobus, blue monkeys, red-tailed monkeys and grey-cheeked mangabeys.

After lunch we visit the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary - a great site to see how eco-tourism is developing in Uganda, with excellent bird watching. Following a guided walk, we drive back to Fort Portal in time to watch the sun set behind the Rwenzori foothills.

We leave Kibale and head back through the Western Rift Valley region of Uganda. This is a truly beautiful region of crater lakes and plantations. As we continue back to Kampala, we visit a tea estate/ processing plant for a quick look around. Lunch will be a picnic en route and we arrive back in Kampala or Entebbe in the mid to late afternoon.
