LAUNCHES
Tours take 2-5 hours and are packed full of hippo, buffalo and crocodiles.
Other large mammals are often seen as they come to drink at the river; elephant, leopards and antelope such as Uganda kob and waterbuck, are common.
The bird watching on boat trips is, not surprisingly, excellent.
In Uganda, river launches are possible at Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth and Lake Mburo. A guided canoe tour is also possible at Katonga.
In Tanzania, Selous Game Reserve is the home of river launches.
