Mountains of the Moon Hotel
Fort Portal’s oldest and most renowned hotel. A grand old colonial building sitting in 15 acres of beautiful gardens, full of birdlife.
It is a 20 minute walk into the town centre, although most guests are happy to stay and admire the spectacular views of the Rwenzori Mountains from the hotel.
The hotel is styled on a combination of simplistic and charming decor to create a welcoming and homely feel. All rooms now have internet access.

Fort Portal Motel
A new establishment close to the town centre. It has great surroundings (next to the golf course) and an elegant colonial-influenced style.
Self contained rooms, well furnished with mod cons (satellite TV, internet etc).
There is also a decent restaurant offering a range of local and continental dishes.

Rwenzori View Guesthouse
This small guesthouse has a reputation for great hostelry and a friendly atmosphere. Run by a Dutch/English couple, it lies on the outskirts of Fort Portal, but within easy walking distance of the market and town centre.
Great home cooked dinners are provided and the garden views are spectacular. Rooms are comfortable, airy and self contained, each with a private veranda.

Rujuna Hilltop Guesthouse
Situated a little out of town, this is a 2 storey house set in a spectacular location. It lies amongst the Rwenzori foothills and offers splendid views.
Rooms are simple yet comfortable with hot and cold running water and guaranteed solar generated power. Meals are of local or international cuisine.

Rwenzori Travellers Inn
This is a tidy three storey complex right in the centre of Fort Portal. It offers comfortable, clean rooms and is a good place to meet fellow travellers.
The terrace bar/restaurant is a lively venue with decent, simple food and a good selection of drinks. It can however be noisy at night.

Mweya Safari Lodge
Mweya is perhaps Uganda’s best situated and most sumptuous lodge. Large en suite rooms with private verandas all boast superb views and the gardens teem with wildlife and birds.
The restaurant offers an extensive and delicious menu with views overlooking the Kazinga Channel. This is pure luxury in the heart of the African bush.

Jacana Safari Lodge
A luxurious retreat on the edge of Lake Nyamusingire. This fantastic wood thatch construction is owned by Geolodges and offers luxury chalets and family cottage rooms, all with private verandas and great views.
The restaurant serves excellent food with even better views and extras include a swimming pool, sauna, massages and an open sided bar suspended over the lake.

Ishasha Wilderness Camp
This well positioned camp offers spacious and comfortable tented accommodation on the banks of the Ntungwe River. The tents are well furnished and en suite and there is a central lounge, outdoor shaded area and evening fire place.
Low impact is highly rated here and toilets are eco friendly and most power is solar generated. We consider this a beautiful exclusive site, ideal to get away from it all.

Mweya Guesthouses
Two bungalows in the grounds of Mweya hostel make for a comfortable and homely visit. With decent views, large lounge areas and even a kitchen these are a good option for an inexpensive yet comfortable stay in Queen Elizabeth.
Despite kitchen facilities, catering is available from the nearby Mweya hostel.

Mweya Hostel
The Mweya Hostel or Mweya Institute of Ecology provides basic accommodation on the splendid Mweya peninsula.
Rooms are single or double with shared bathrooms and decent food is available from the adjacent restaraunt.
Volcanoes Bwindi Lodge
A secluded and exclusive lodge overlooking the forest. 8 luxury bandas (spacious and well furnished tents) provide a low key rest on the tree covered mountain side.
Queen size beds, private bathrooms and eco friendly facilities. High quality food is available in the open air dining room, overlooking the forest.
Gorilla Forest Camp
A luxurious tented camp perched on the rainforest covered mountainside of Bwindi. These are spacious twin tents raised on wooden platforms and protected by a thatch roof.
Tents contain en suite facilities and a bath tub – perfect for an evening soak. Verandas look out on to the forest and an open air dining area is provided. Plenty of wildlife and birds in the camp grounds.

Buhoma Community Rest Camp
This smart complex of clean and well looked after bandas sits in an attractive forested area with good access to the park. It is a popular destination due to its good value for price.
Rooms and bandas share bathroom facilities (although one is self contained). There is a variety of foods available from the on site restaurant.

Bwindi View Bandas
A basic set of bandas in pleasant forested surroundings. Conditions are simple but comfortable with shared facilities and decent food available from the restaurant.
Ndali Lodge
An upmarket family run retreat with unsurpassed tranquillity. Set on the rim of an extinct volcano and overlooking Lake Nyinambuga, the views are stunning and no night time generators maintain the blissful peace.
The 8 luxury cottages enjoy views of the Rwenzori mountains, are comfortable and well decorated. They are all self contained with bath tub and private verandas. The restaurant offers superb candle lit dinners.

Kibale Primate Lodge
This superb site, in the heart of the forest, offers luxury tented and cottage accommodation. Tents are on a raised platform and each enjoys its own veranda looking out into the trees. All are self contained, spacious and nicely decorated.
Cottages are set apart from the lodge and offer even more privacy. An open lounge/restaurant is very comfortable and offers great views of monkeys and birdlife.

Primate Lodge Treehouse
Unique tree house set high up amongst the trees of Kibale forest. This is set 15 minutes from the Primate Lodge main complex and has a definite wild feel to it.
It is a comfortable stay but at times can be noisy because of surrounding wildlife. Elephant encounters are common and red-tailed monkeys wake up early. Highly recommended for the experience.

Chimpanzee Forest Guesthouse
This is old colonial building dating back to the 1950's, set in splendid manicured gardens and surrounded by tea plantations. Comfortable and colonial in style with a great selection of reading material.
Rooms are well furnished and there are self contained cottages or bandas also available, overlooking Lake Nyabikere. Good food is served in the dining area in peaceful surroundings.

Safari Hotel
A family run lodge with various options of accommodation; choice of rooms in the main building or thatched bandas nearby. Basic but clean conditions in pleasant surroundings.
Simple healthy meals are served; a mixture of local and international dishes.

A traditional luxury tented camp in the beautiful surroundings of Lake Mburo. Seclusion and exclusivity are the by words here, with a focus on great service.

Mihingo Lodge
A beautiful retreat with an emphasis on luxury and privacy. Sumptuous tents are suspended under a thatch roof on a stilted platform. All are self contained and placed in various settings for increased privacy; choose from forest, lake view or rocky outcrop.
The dining room offers superb views of the lake and there is swimming pool immediately below for an extra touch of decadence.

Rwonyo Rest Camp
Five standing tents, with comfortable fittings and simple decor in a secluded clearance amongst thick forest. Basic but pleasant with a wilderness atmosphere, made all the stronger by wildlife often walking through the camp.
Food is available from the nearby main campsite, although a guide is needed to make the 1km walk through thick bush.

Semliki Safari Lodge
One of Uganda’s most luxurious and secluded lodges. Based on a traditional hunting lodge, it has acquired the perfect balance between rustic and comfort, with real attention to detail. Luxury tents are protected by a thatch roof and are self contained with private verandas offering stunning views.
Four poster beds, Persian carpets and cushion piled sofas are standard here and food is prepared daily and completely home made.

One of Kampala’s premiere hotels, the Hotel Africana is a sophisticated, modern hotel set in pleasant gardens with good access to the city centre.

Hotel Namirembe
A large and popular guesthouse approximately 20 minutes walking from the city centre. Run by Church Commissioners, it is a welcoming and clean establishment with great views over Kampala.

Kampala Backpackers
A popular and well looked after hostel, just 2km from the city centre. The 3 acre grounds and gardens play host to a resident troop of vervet monkeys and teem with birdlife. Comfortable with a friendly atmosphere and good opportunities to meet other travellers.
We tend to use the dormitories with shared facilities, but twin bandas and private rooms are also available. Internet access, bar, lounge and restaurant serving pizzas, grills etc complete the complex.

Red Chilli Hideaway
Another great hostel in the Kampala surrounds. 4km from the city centre, Red Chilli sits in large gardens in a quiet and green suburb. Facilities include a plunge pool, badminton court, satellite television lounge and internet access.

This camp is in fact a 16 hectare private island offering isolated and tranquil accommodation. A community project provides luxury accommodation in walk-in tents and self contained cottages.

Arcadia Cottages
The Arcadia Cottages lie perched on a hillside overlooking Lake Bunyonyi. With 14 acres of grounds and well kept gardens, they create a serene and peaceful air.
The brick cottages are all self contained and offer splendid views of the lake. Simple tasteful decoration allows the scenery to dominate. Food is very good, typical of local dishes and served on the wooden decking of the restaurant.

Bunyonyi Overland Resort
This popular and extensive camp offers excellent facilities and a range of comfortable accommodation along terraced slopes, leading down to a beautiful bay.
Accommodation is provided in comfortable safari tents, rooms, cottages and family cottages. We tend to use the cottages due to their great views of the lake and comfortable furnishings. Food here is also very good.

Crater Bay Cottages
A row of thatched round cottages set in attractive grounds, in keeping with the natural surroundings. With private access to the lake and good views, this is a good option for peace and tranquillity.

Paraa Lodge
Perched high on the banks of the Victoria Nile, Paraa Lodge is an upmarket lodge with a grand history. Its high standards have catered for many dignitaries and continue in the recently renovated complex.

An unobtrusive and personal lodge with a real bush feel to it. Natural materials, clever design and absence of air conditioning help the lodge to blend in with its surroundings and create a unique feel.
Wooden chalets and luxury walk in tents are all self contained, comfortable, spacious and boast private patios facing the river. The restaurant is in keeping, providing good food under the protection of a giant cluster fig tree.

Sambiya River Lodge
The Sambiya River Lodge is an eco-friendly resort in a pleasant wooded location, close to the park boundary. Solar water heaters and limited morning and evening use of the a generator help meet this ideal and lend a sense of intimacy to the site.
We use both the bandas and cottages here and both have access to the lodge swimming pool. Cottages are self contained whereas bandas use shared facilities but both are considered comfortable.

Red Chilli Rest Camp
A simple and fun camp site set back in the bush, close to the Nile. Conditions are basic but not uncomfortable add a great sense of adventure to the safari. Animals regularly pass through the grounds.
We stay in the bandas, which all have electric lights and a fan. Bathroom facilities are shared.

Mount Elgon Hotel
A peaceful hotel set in a grand old colonial establishment with lovely grounds looking out over the ridges of Mount Elgon. An impressive combination of old fashioned grandeur and modern comforts lend an unusual and tranquil atmosphere.

Mbale Resort Hotel
A sophisticated resort set in beautiful grounds. It boasts an excellent swimming pool, gym and sauna and a vibrant bar/restaurant. The resort attains the sophistication that it strives for, in many aspects although is let down a little by the catering.

Landmark Inn
A converted colonial establishment close to the town centre, renowned for its excellent Indian cuisine. The attractive gardens create a pleasant shaded area for guests to relax in.
This is a small hotel and rooms are comfortable although basic.

A small hotel that prides itself on cleanliness and enjoys good access to the town centre. Rooms are fully furnished, several en suite with satellite television.

Mount Elgon View Hotel
A central hotel offering simple but clean and spacious rooms.
Below the guesthouse is a very good Indian restaurant. Single and double rooms are comfortable and use shared bathroom facilities.
